2018 Jr/Sr Student Osteopathic Officer of the Year (SOOY) Nominations

The Executive Board of AMOPS, in conjunction with SAMOPS, issues a call for nominations for the 2018 year of the Junior and Senior Student Osteopathic Officer of the Year Award (SOOY). From local chapters one Junior and one Senior SOOY, along with four regional and two national students will be recognized as this year's AMOPS/SAMOPS National Student Conference in Tacoma, WA on March 8-11, 2018.
Who is eligible for nomination as SOOY?
  • Any current Osteopathic Medical Student who is commissioned in reserve or active military duty status
  • Must be active, due paying member in local SAMOPS chapter
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Junior Student Officer (1st/2nd yr OMS) and Senior Student Officer (3rd/4th yr OMS)
  • Must be present at National Conference for eligibility for Regional or National SOOY consideration

Who can nominate an officer for local consideration?

  • An officer may be nominated by his or her advisor, fellow officers or may self-nominate
  • Local chapter Jr/Sr SOOY nominations will be chosen under the direction of each local chapter SAMOPS E-board/President
  • Local chapters will offer one Junior and one Senior SOOY for Regional and National consideration
Requirements for Regional and National Consideration
  • Must be nominated by local chapter (see above)
  • Local SAMOPS Chapter President must submit nomination for one Jr and Sr Officer to samopsconferencechair@gmail.com by February 2, 2018 by 10pm
  • All individual application packets must be submitted by Local Chapter SOOYs by February 16, 2018 by 10pm
  • Local SOOYs must be present at National Conference for eligibility for Regional or National SOOY consideration
  • *The AMOPS Executive Board will oversee nomination and election process for Regional and National SOOYs.
Regional and National SOOY will be announced at the Presidential Banquet
Regional/National SOOY Application Packet
  • Must submit entire packet in one email to samopsconferencechair@gmail.com
    • Name, Rank, Branch, Year, School
    • Current CV
    • Headshot (civilian or military)
    • Letter of Good Standing from Dean/Registrar
    • Answer the following two prompts in 400 words or less (each)
      • How has your current (or future) involvement in SAMOPS prepared you to become
        an officer in the military?
      • How do you envision yourself practicing Osteopathic medicine in the future as a
        military physician?
  • All application packets must be received by February 16, 2018 by 10pm
